About Me

Who is the Carolina girl?

I first want to thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. My name is Jamie and I live in North Carolina.  I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember.  I received my undergraduate degree in elementary education and took my first job filling in for a maternity leave for sixth grade math and science.  During this time teaching I quickly realized I didn't know what techniques to use for students with disabilities.  Instead of signing my contract for another year I decided to take a break to get my master's degree.  I majored in Special Education with a minor in Emotional/Behavior disorders.  Graduate school was one of the best experiences of my life and I loved learning how I could better teach students with disabilities.  I finished my degree in a year and took my first full year position teaching sixth grade language arts and social studies.  After teaching sixth grade for two years I decided to take a job teaching behavior support.
This blog will be about my journey as a new special educator.  I'm very nervous at how different this job will be compared to what I've taught for the last two years. However, I'm thrilled at the opportunity to change the lives of little ones.  If you are also a special educator, please connect with me! I love learning from others and look forward to meeting many great teachers.
